The timber under the roof, built properly.

The carpentry is half our name. A dormer or loft conversion usually means a joiner for the frame, then a roofer to weather it in, and a gap between the two where things go wrong. We do both, so the frame is built with the roof in mind and the finished dormer is watertight from day one.

We build box and pitched dormers, replace and strengthen rafters and joists, form openings for roof windows, and fit cladding, fascias and lead to finish it all off. Many rear dormers come under permitted development, some need planning permission, and all need building regulations approval: we work from your approved drawings, and can talk it through with you before you apply.

Roof carpentry & dormers questions

Do I need planning permission for a dormer?

Many rear dormers fall under permitted development, but not all: front dormers and houses in a conservation area usually need planning permission. Every dormer needs building regulations approval. Check with your council (Surrey Heath, Rushmoor, Hart or Bracknell Forest) before you start. We work from your approved drawings.

Can you fit roof windows into my existing roof?

Yes. We trim the rafters, form the opening and fit the window with its flashing kit, so it's weathered properly into the slates or tiles.

Do you do full loft conversions?

We do the roof and timber side: dormers, joists, studwork, roof windows and weathering. For the inside finishes (plastering, electrics, stairs) we can work alongside your other trades.

Can you repair rotten roof timbers?

Yes. We'll replace or splice in new timber, sister weak rafters and fix the leak that caused the rot in the first place.
