The joints where leaks love to start.

Wherever a roof meets something else, a chimney, a wall, a dormer or another roof slope, there's a joint that has to be weathered with lead or a flashing. Over time lead splits or gets lifted by wind, the mortar holding it in the wall falls out, and water finds its way in.

We renew step and cover flashings, lead valleys and back gutters, and repair chimney heads: repointing, re-flaunching the cement around the pots, replacing cracked pots and fitting cowls or caps. Where a chimney is no longer used, we can take it down below the roof line and slate or tile over it.

Why does my chimney leak?

Usually it's the flashings where the chimney meets the roof, the flaunching around the pots, or porous brickwork and mortar. We find which one it is before we quote.

Lead or a lead alternative?

Lead lasts for decades when it's fitted properly, and it's what we use for most flashings and valleys. Lead-free alternatives have their place and we'll tell you if one suits better.

Can you remove a chimney I don't use?

Yes. We can take the stack down below the roof line and slate or tile over it. If the chimney is shared, or the house is in a conservation area, check with your neighbour and the council first.

Do you need scaffolding for chimney work?

Usually yes, for safe access. We arrange it and include it in the quote.
